The Outstanding Professional
TYPES OF MARKETING
Cathy Fennell made us all laugh at the London workshop on Sustainable Marketing on October 1st, with the following gem:
You meet a woman in a bar and go right up and tell her, ‘I’m really good in bed’.
That’s direct marketing
You see a woman in a bar and get a friend to go right up and tell her, ‘My friend’s really good in bed’.
That’s advertising
You meet a woman in a bar, buy her a drink and next day send her flowers and a card that says, ‘I’m really good in bed’.
That’s PR
You meet a woman in a bar and she comes up to you and says, ‘I hear you’re really good in bed’.
That’s brand recognition!

Racy Chicago ad for law firm was taken down after one week
…
Despite its brief run, the sign apparently was good for business. Since it went up last week, the two attorneys said calls to their law firm have gone up dramatically.

corporation
corporation, in law, organization enjoying legal personality for the purpose of carrying on certain activities. … Besides business corporations, there are also charitable, cooperative, municipal, and religious corporations, all with distinctive features. …
The legal personality of a corporation … continues in existence when the organizers lose their connection with it. In most cases its liability is limited to the assets it possesses and creditors may not seize property of persons associated with the corporation … . Legal personality gives the corporation many of the capacities of a natural person; e.g., it can hold property and can even commit crimes (for which it may be fined and its directors imprisoned).

In Pay People Right! Breakthrough Reward Strategies to Create Great Companies, Patricia K. Zingheim, Ph.D. and Jay R. Schuster, Ph.D. have created a strategic, but very practical, business approach to the
importance of including pay as an element of the business planning process.
This book goes beyond the compelling “total compensation strategy” story told in their first book, The New Pay: Linking Employee and Organizational Performance. It addresses the broader context of “total rewards strategy,” which includes the entire workforce experience and the “better workforce deal.” It shows the importance of building an effective business case for changing rewards to match business goals. It is this comprehensive treatment of total rewards and how they can influence strategic business alignment that makes their approach truly breakthrough.

Too Much publicity can be a Bad Thing

“April 11, 2007
… A mention in the Wall Street Journal did not work out the way that they had at first hoped it would.
After The Journal article came out more than a year ago, orders flooded the Web site of their store, Mad Mod. Shortly thereafter, they had no Bamboo Comfortto sell, and it stayed that way for four months.”

Small Putter Company Hits the Sweet Spot
…
SeeMore needs to carefully nurture this publicity. They need to leverage it to build momentum for their company. They cannot just rely on their fifteen minutes of fame. They have done a great first step at their website, which is already full of the big news for their little company. On the flip side, they also need to be ready for a possible onslaught of demand. If they do not monitor and manage their growth carefully, their own success could sink them. They do not meet demand and have the systems in place to satisfy what can be a fickle market.
I hope Zack and SeeMore make the most of their success and that both are around for a long time!”

“Imus Radiothon gets funds despite furor
By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer
NEW YORK – Don Imus raised nearly $1 million in the first five hours of his annual radio charity fundraiser Thursday, but it was only by voice — MSNBC pulled the plug on his talk show’s television simulcast amid the uproar over his racial slur.”
… “Imus has apologized repeatedly for his comments. He also has said that those who called for his firing without knowing him, his philanthropic work or what his show was about would be making an “ill-informed” choice.Imus said Thursday said he had apologized enough and plans to meet with members of the Rutgers team. “At some point, I’m not sure when, I’m going to talk to the team. That’s all I’m interested in doing.” “…
“The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has sought Imus’ firing, said he will meet Thursday with CBS officials. The Rev. Jesse Jackson said he planned to meet with both CBS and NBC executives on Thursday with a delegation of civil rights activists and lawmakers to discuss the Imus situation and diversity in broadcasting.”What has that to do with Imus job ? Why to fire him ? They have to make him pay in court, not by firing him, or is a violation of his rights. Sorry rev., that was Jesus example ? This the way we have to do too ? How about forgiving sins as god forgives our sins, so better ask Inmus for repentence ?“… Roker said he was tired of cruelty that passes for funny, humor at other people’s expense. “So, his cruelty makes OK yours cruelty to Imus ?This is an example of stand on the head publicity: I Now Know Don Imus, and till now he was nobody to my, more, atacking him for a real mistake but with wrong methods makes him interesting to me.So now I’m going to:
“Don Imus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia”
…
Go ! Obama, pick on Don Imus, an ex-cocaine and ex-alcohol addicted. Yes, thats right his toxicity killed your empathy (If ever existed ?), and that’s why you decided he has to be fired (weak emotional and wrong as Don Imus when …). I saw Obana on Jay Leno Show, and was pleaseant for a politician. Now is not anymore to me. Will undecided voters (+ friends and relatives of ex-addicted) vote for Obama ? Hillary … ?
“… Other controversies …
Joe Barton
For two weeks in the Fall of 2006, Imus delivered ongoing ‘rants’ against Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX), describing him as “a lying fat little skunk from Texas“, a “pipsqueak” and a “coward and a crybaby”. Imus also called Barton a “congressional dirtbag“, because Barton used his position as a committee chair to prevent passage of the Combating Autism Act, which would authorize funds for autism research. In the weeks before Congress recessed on September 29, 2006, Barton used his chairmanship to prevent the legislative proposal from coming to a vote in the House, rousing the ire of Imus and his wife, staunch supporters of autism research. The bill already had been passed unanimously by the Senate, and had come on the heels of a 2005 declaration by the Centers for Disease Control of an autism epidemic. [30]“

” Fox News
During the period January 27–February 2, 2007, Imus attended the dedication of the Center for the Intrepid, a privately built rehabilitation center for wounded veterans. Imus aided the building of the center by raising over US$10,000,000 and he personally contributed over US$300,000.
The dedication received little coverage in prime time news,
a fact that angered him. On his show in this period, he claimed that Fox Network personalities Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity were too cowardly to attend or cover the dedication because they had supported the Iraq war so vigorously.[citation needed]“
I rest ”stand on your head” publicity case.
)
Personally, I prefer The Tonight Show (Wednesday, 04/11) with Jay Leno and Wanda Sykes about Don Imus.
